About the Zay 808
The Zay 808 is a single 808 bass sample in WAV format. This is what you hear in the preview above:
- Key: C (C1, about 33 Hz). Play it on any C in your piano roll and it sounds at its natural pitch.
- Tail: medium, about 0.9 seconds. That’s around two beats at 140 BPM.
- Pitch: it drops slightly, by about half a semitone, over its first 0.7 seconds, which gives each note a small downward bend.
- Sound: lightly saturated, a little grittier than our DJ Spinz 808. The extra harmonics help you hear it on laptop and phone speakers, which can’t play 33 Hz.
- Best for: bouncy trap patterns where the 808 changes notes often, rather than long held notes.
How to Use the Zay 808 in FL Studio
- Add it to your cart and check out at $0. You’ll land on a download page and get the download link by email, usually within about 15 minutes. If it doesn’t show up, check your spam folder.
- Drag the file into FL Studio’s Channel Rack. It loads into a Sampler channel.
- Open the piano roll for that channel and write your bassline. Because the 808 is in C, every C plays it in tune, and other notes follow your chords.
In Ableton Live, Logic Pro or any other DAW, load it into a sampler (Simpler in Ableton, Quick Sampler in Logic) and play it from a MIDI track. For patterns and slides, read our ultimate guide to 808s.
